Moorthi’s Story – Guardian of the Green in Kithulgala

Our company owns land in Kithulgala, high up in the rainforest slopes. We value this property not just for farming, but because it's still natural and undeveloped. Moorthi is the person who takes care of it for us.
Moorthi originally comes from Bogawanthalawa and works full-time as our land caretaker in Kithulgala. His main job is to protect the property and keep it healthy—he checks the boundaries, maintains the walking paths, and keeps the area clean without disturbing the natural environment. But he does more than just watch over the land. He also grows crops like bananas, lemongrass, and medicinal herbs, working with the land's natural features.
These small crops serve two purposes: they help keep the soil healthy, and they give Moorthi extra income. We buy his herbs and fruits at fair prices and use them in our teas, dried blends, and wellness products.
Moorthi's approach shows how land can be used responsibly. He doesn't clear-cut trees or use heavy machinery. Instead, he works with the forest's natural patterns—using the shade, rainfall, and nutrients that are already there to grow his crops.
This arrangement works well for everyone. We get fresh, chemical-free ingredients for our products, while Moorthi earns both his caretaking salary and income from his crops. This approach supports independence and good land management.
Moorthi's careful work reminds us that some of the most important farming happens quietly in places where few people notice, but it makes a real difference.
